Founded in 2002, in Bergen County, New Jersey, The Center for Creative Counseling consists of an experienced team of ADD and ADHD therapists and counselors. At the Center, you are assured that your therapist will provide you with expert ADD and ADHD counseling and psychotherapy, as he or she is highly trained and fully licensed. We have since branched out from Bergen County. We now serve all of Northern New Jersey (Bergen County, Essex County, Passaic County--as well as Rockland County) with our three office locations. ADD/ADHD Treatment, Therapy, Coach, and Counseling

It can be very confusing and frustrating having ADD/ADHD or living with someone who does.  Life can oftentimes seem quite tumultuous and upsetting.  The first step to improve the situation is to identify the nature and scope of the problem.

• The person with ADD/ADHD may possess the following symptoms¹:
• Fails to give close attention to details or makes careless mistakes in schoolwork, office work, or other activities
• Often has difficulty sustaining attention in tasks or play activities
• Often does not follow through on instructions and fails to finish schoolwork, chores, or duties in the workplace
• Often has difficulty organizing tasks and activities
• Often avoids, dislikes, or is reluctant to engage in tasks that require sustained mental effort
• Often loses things necessary for tasks or activities (e.g., toys, school assignments, pencils, books, or tools).
• Is often easily distracted by extraneous stimuli
• Is often forgetful in daily activities
• Often fidgets with hands or feet or squirms in seat.
• Often leaves seat in classroom or in other situations in which remaining seated is expected.
• Often runs about or climbs excessively in situations in which it is inappropriate to do so (in teenagers or adults, this manifest more  in terms of a subjective feeling of restlessness)
• Often has difficulty playing or engaging in leisure activities quietly
• Is often on the go or often acts as if driven by a motor
• Often talks excessively
• Often blurts out answers before questions have been completed
• Often has difficulty waiting for one’s  turn
• Often interrupts or intrudes on  others (e.g., butts into conversations or games)

ADD/ADHD children and adults face unique challenges in their lives. Their difficulty in maintaining focus and in organizing their daily activities can result in fatigue, frustration, anger, and depression.  Low self-esteem can set in as ADHD individuals experience repeated failures and disappointments.  In addition, relationships suffer as those with ADHD become increasingly alienated from others. A commonly expressed sentiment is that "people cannot possibly understand what I go through every day. They just don’t get it and never will." As the ADD/ADHD person becomes more and more demoralized, he learns to protect himself by denying his true feelings and presenting a false façade. We, at the Center for Creative Counseling, have worked with many individuals who struggle with ADD/ADHD.  We specialize in helping children and adults develop the self-monitoring, organizational, and focusing skills needed to persevere and complete tasks effectively.  Moreover, we impart the self-awareness and social skills required to interact with others in more productive ways.  

**For parents of children with ADHD, we teach concrete parenting skills and techniques designed to increase motivation, compliance, and self-esteem.  Our ultimate goal is to help parents restore functionality, peace and tranquility back into their home.

 Vocational Assessment and Development:  Through the use of a variety of diagnostic testing instruments, we help children and adults with ADD/ADHD identify and actualize their unique talents and skills.  These valuable testing and consultation services are designed to identify strengths and liabilities in order to formulate concrete goals and create customized actions plans.
