Veterans Counseling Services

It is with the utmost gratitude and appreciation that we recognize the tremendous sacrifice of our finest Americans, our military veterans. Our soldiers in the armed forces have put their lives on the line to preserve our freedom and for that we are eternally grateful. It is both with a sense of humility and gratification that we offer veterans counseling services to our honored veterans. Veterans often return to the States fragmented and disconnected from sources of support and healing. It can be quite difficult and uncomfortable for many veterans to seek out and find adequate sources of assistance.

These are some of the difficulties that you as a veteran may be experiencing:

1) Persistent depression (a feeling of sadness, helplessness, and hopelessness; an inability to experience pleasure).

2) Anxiety or Panic Attacks

3) Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) resulting from the trauma of battle

4) Difficulty adjusting back into civilian life:

     a) Family concerns: You may feel like a stranger in your own home. You may find that your children do not respond warmly to you or seem afraid of you. You may believe that your spouse is not supportive of you and does not fully understand what you went through. Long deployments can cause negative changes in the family dynamic that oftentimes require professional counseling to address.

     b) Financial worries and job concerns: What will I now do with my life in terms of a meaningful livelihood? Re-enlist? Go back to school? Pursue a particular trade or profession? Look for a job? If, in fact, I decide to pursue a particular field, which one is best suited for me given my skill set, personality, and current life circumstances?

     c) Using drugs, alcohol, gambling, sex, etc... as a way to deal with life's stresses: You may have begun to develop certain habits as a way to provide comfort and escape from negative thoughts and feelings.

As part of our commitment to provide the finest veterans counseling, we at the Center for Creative Counseling utilize a multifaceted therapeutic approach including job exploration and testing (if needed). We also offer online counseling or phone counseling for those veterans who cannot find help locally, or who find it too uncomfortable to travel to an office and sit with other people in a waiting room. Online therapy or phone therapy is a safe and convenient option for such persons.
